We are now fully open for the 2020 season!
Located in an idyllic rural setting close to all amenities, the Log Village and Grist Mill Campground comprises 117 acres of mixed open field and woodland, five streams and two ponds. Six miles from the Vermont border and just 28 miles from the town of Lake George and the Adirondack State Park, the Campground is within easy driving distance to:
The village of East Hartford became part of the renamed Washington County after the American Revolution. The town still houses the recruiting office where 26 commissioned officers of the New York Infantry, veterans of the French and Indian War, were granted the Provincial Patent. People were so poor that the only way to survive was to build a Log Cabin using trees from the forest. None of those houses still exists but the Grist Mill where they milled their corn into flour is located on our land.
We are Hilary and Bob Oreschnick and we literally bought the farm (no pun intended) in 2009 after seeing it advertised whilst on holiday from York, England where we lived. We are committed to ensure that this site remains a top quality venture that will grow organically with our personal investment of time and energy.
The lovely old farmhouse, land, ponds, museum and Grist Mill had belonged to Floyd Harwood before we bought it in the fall of 2009. Our view was to bring the site back to life and to open it to the public as soon as possible.
We have now cleared away tons of old and broken farm equipment, mowed over five acres of ground, landscaped the gardens and restocked the ponds. The Campground is built with top quality Yurts, Mongolian style rigid tents, offering top quality beds, a kitchenette, fridge freezer, microwave, coffee maker and television with DVD player. The top quality restrooms and showers block also house the Laundry where you will find a coin operated washing machine and dryer.
The Wedding Barn at Log Village & Grist Mill is a sight to behold. Newly renovated with polished pine floors, post beams, twinkling lights and huge sliding barn doors that open onto ta large open deck. It’s a great place for weddings and events of all kinds. Your wedding package gives you the whole site for 3 days and 2 nights and all yurt accommodation included. More details on the Wedding & Special Events tab.
Before the move to the U.S.A Hilary worked in schools, and led marketing efforts in a number of businesses. Bob is a nurse who has run a number of top quality hospitals, nursing homes and care-at-home companies in Europe. Bob was born in Minnesota, raised and educated in the States.
“Hilary was super welcoming by greeting us when we arrived and giving us a tour outside
the yurt as well as inside. She was so entertaining and super friendly. I appreciated that she
was flexible even when we had 2 people over the recommended capacity for one of the
yurts! The fridge was also filled with milk and ice cream! Yum!” P Chan via Airbnb
“This was our first glamping experience and from start to finish we loved it. Hilary did not disappoint with milk, cookies, water and ice cream available for our arrival. There are beautiful grounds to walk around and the yurts are very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and the proximity to some of the adorable towns in Vermont is an added bonus.” S Livingstone via Airbnb
“If I hadn't met my husband through Airbnb, I'd name this the best vacation/experience I've ever had. The yurts are exactly what you see here but you're only seeing one part of this beautiful property. The bathrooms are hotel level, the small yard with a grill & firepit next to each yurt are cute, the lake was just serene (don't be afraid to ask for a small boat to sail around for a bit) & Hilary + her dogs was the best host I've had through this website. I went with 6 other people & everyone was happy. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, you're not more than 40 minutes away from Lake George, Six Flags, and other big attractions. The small diner less than 5 minutes away is both cheap & delicious. I can't say anymore positive things other than we'll try to come back here again & don't forget the bug spray!” C Joseph via Airbnb
